The President further said that the aim of the power devolution is to create an environment to provide equal development benefits to all and to create a just society for all to enjoy equal facilities.
He made these remarks addressing the conclusion ceremony of the Vavuniya District Nila Mehewara-Presidents People Service-National Programme, held at the Saivapragasa Ladies College in Vavuniya on October 21.
President Sirisena said that the present government is committed to do the developmental and political reforms needed for the country and said that there are various objections when the government implement its process in this regard.
The President also emphasized that all those who oppose the countrys political reforms must understand the reality of these issues that have arisen today in the country, and that all of them will be responsible for the issues arise in the future, by not addressing these issues today.
The President said that any of those people who oppose this process, have no proposal with them to provide solution for the issues, and requested them to provide their proposals regarding the political reforms needed in the country.
Furthermore, a draft constitution has not yet been prepared, the President said that adding the report which has been compiled taking into the consideration of the ideas and suggestions by all parties and submitted to Parliament leaving room to make amendments and to hold debate. It clearly protects the unitary status of the country, and the rightful place for Buddhism as well as mention regarding a society where all the communities in the country could live in harmony.
The President has said that some people are trying to mislead the people by pointing out the things that are not mentioned in that report as well as in some newspapers and media publishing false news misleading the public and requested all of them to fulfill their respective duties understanding their responsibilities towards the country.
The Nila Mehewara programme which is implemented under the guidance of the Ministry of Home Affairs to provide solutions for the issues of the people, has completed 63 regional programmes and the third national programme was held centering Vavuniya district.
Many programmes were held under the Presidents patronage including marking the distribution of 5000 land title deeds to the people who do not have permanent title deeds in the Vavuniya district, awarding gifts to students who have obtained high marks at this years year five scholarship examination, distribution of coconut saplings through the Coconut Development Board under the National food production programme, donation of two water bowsers to provide drinking water to the people affected by dry weather conditions .
Later, the President visited the premises where the Nila Mehewara programme held and paid his attention to the issues presented by the people there.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister of Home Affairs Vajira Abeywardena, Ministers Gayantha Karunathilaka , S.B. Nawinna, Rishad Bathiudeen, State Minister Vijayakala Maheshwaran, the Governor of the Northern Province, Reginald Cooray, Parliamentarians K. Kader Masthan,A.M. Sumanthiran, Selvam Adaikalanathan, District Secretary M.B.R.Pushpakumara, public servants and many others participated on this occasion.
Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena also visited the family of Vidya, the school girl who was raped and murdered in Jaffna.
President Sirisena visited them responding to a request made by Vidyas mother. The President looked into the well-being of the family members of Vidya. He assured every support for the family, including the assistance for the education of the elder sister of Vidya.
Vidyas mother expressed her gratitude to the President for his intervention to expedite the legal process to bring justice.
