President gave these directions during a progress review meeting of the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, held at the Ministry of Mahaweli auditorium, yesterday (09).
Furthermore, the President examined the Uma Oya project activity, future plans and financial statue as well.
Further analysis was done regarding the 2017 progress report and 2018 future plans of Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment.
Progress of the institutions come under the ministry, Mahaweli projects and environmental projects conducted under foreign funds and progress of profit making by the institutes under the ministry were examined in this meeting.
Progress of implementation of the National Environmental Policy was also discussed at this event.
President instructed the Secretary of the Ministry to appoint a committee to look into the issues that can be faced when unexpected droughts prevail and make adequate plans in the agricultural and food crop sectors to face such situations.
Deputy Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, Anuradha Jayaratne, Secretary to the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, Anura Dissanayake, Director General of Mahaweli Authority, General Gotabhaya Jayarathna, and senior officers of the Ministry attended this meeting.
