The new bill to establish the "Chartered Institute of Sri Lanka Media Professionals" has been officially published in the Government Gazette, with the primary objective of introducing, promoting, and maintaining high professional standards for media professionals in Sri Lanka.

Pursuant to the direct directive of the Hon. Minister of Health and Mass Media, this special gazette notification was issued on June 05, 2026.

This initiative aims to elevate the quality of the country's media sector, formalize the professional rights and responsibilities of journalists within a legal framework, and provide the necessary legal provisions for related matters.

Marking a new chapter in Sri Lankan journalism, this bill to establish the Chartered Institute is scheduled to be presented to Parliament in the near future.
