A Sri Lankan parliamentary delegation departed for China to participate in a special parliamentary workshop on governance, with the official leadership (Head of the Delegation) held by the Deputy Minister of Mass Media, Dr. Kaushalya Ariyarathne.
The delegation included Deputy Minister T.B. Sarath and a group of Members of Parliament representing various political parties.
An Overview of the Chinese Governance Mechanism
During this productive workshop, jointly organized by the Chinese Department of Commerce and the ICC, extensive discussions were held on President Xi Jinping's thought on democracy with Chinese characteristics, "Whole-Process People’s Democracy," as well as the operational mechanisms of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the "Two Sessions."
In addition, the Sri Lankan delegation had the unique opportunity to visit and directly observe the structure and functioning of major state institutions in China, including the National People's Congress (NPC).
Participation in International Tea Day Celebrations
Concurrently with this official visit, the official International Tea Day celebrations, organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing, China, were also held, where Deputy Minister Dr. Kaushalya Ariyarathne participated as the Chief Guest.
The delegation, including the Deputy Minister, extends its special gratitude to the ICC and the Chinese Department of Commerce for organizing this highly successful and productive program, as well as to the Embassy of China in Sri Lanka for providing the necessary diplomatic coordination.
